The story behind Bar Bauma

Famous for being the meeting place of well-known writers, Bauma was taken over by new owners Somos Esencia in 2023. Care was taken to maintain the name and the spirit of a bar that had become loved by local residents during its previous 80 years.

This approach to maintaining the best of the past was reflected in the logo, a redrawn version of the iconic Bauma sign that still sits above the main entrance. Interior designers Conti, Cert retained and upholstered many of the existing furniture and fittings.

The menu design is an elevated version of the classic clipboard found in most bars in the city. For Bar Bauma we added a protective faux leather cover, with the logo elegantly embossed on the cover.

The typographic approach for titles and short phrases is inspired by the bolder double-print that is sometimes needed for a letter to be made legible on typewriters.

Other touchpoints throughout the bar play on the all-day, relaxed nature of the establishment, with staff t-shirts reading in Spanish "Breakfast, mid-morning Snack, Lunch, afternoon Snack, Dinner, later-Dinner, Repeat".
